Bernard "Bernie" Blackmore, 65, of Mancelona, passed away on February 26, 2015 at his home. Bernie was born on September 24, 1949, in Traverse City to Betty (VanBrocklin) Blackmore. Bernie grew up in Copemish in his early years then was a Traverse City resident graduating from Traverse City Public Schools. In 1980, he and his wife Sue started the Pizza Shoppe in Mancelona and are still running it presently. He was a school bus driver for Mancelona Public Schools for 21 years, served for 23 years as an Antrim County Commissioner, was a Mancelona Chamber of Commerce member for 35 years and was in charge and ran the Mancelona Buck Pole for over 30 years. Bernie was a kind, gentle soul and a friend to many. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. On December 22, 1973, in Bellaire, he married Susan M. Derror who survives. Also surviving are 2 children, Amy (Kevin) Martin of St. Mary's, GA, Jason Blackmore of Mancelona, 6 grandchildren, Sadie, Ella, Bennett, Brooke, Eli and Lucas, 3 brothers, Bob (Judy) Blackmore, Ben (Cathy) Blackmore, Bill (Darlene) Blackmore, a sister Brenda Ervin as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Blackmore. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mancelona Public Schools High School Gymnasium. Pastor Todd Shafer will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2-6 p.m. at the Mancelona United Methodist Church. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Education Foundation, P.O. Box 586, Mancelona, MI, 49659. Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
