Barbara Faas

Barbara Jean (Ruttan) Faas passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2023. Barb

was born November 26, 1933 and grew up in Northville, Michigan. After high school, she

attended Michigan State University where she met her husband, John (Jack) Faas. They were

married November 29, 1952 and moved to Central Lake to join the family canning company,

Faas Foods. Barb worked for Central Lake Schools for many years in administrative positions.

She raised and showed championship Collies and also owned a dog boarding/grooming

business that was loved by her many customers. Reading was a big part of Barb’s life which led

to her working part time at the Central Lake Township Library and eventually being part of the

Friends of the Library used bookstore.

Surviving Barb are her four children, Dirk (Kathy) Faas of Upper Marlboro, MD, Scott

(Marie-Reine) Faas of Gravelle, France, Darcy (Kevin) Babcock of Bolivia, NC and Jan (Tim)

Shigley of Augusta, KS, seven grandchildren Brad Faas, Jennifer Faas, Amy (Kyle) Gehring,

Daniel Faas, Kelly (Matt) Curtis, Taylor Babcock, Owen Shigley, nieces Peggy (Steve) Collins,

Stephanie Smith and nephews Ken (Martha Stowe) Benson and Ryan Smith. Preceding her in

death were her husband John (Jack) Faas and sister, Christine Smith.

A memorial service will be arranged for late spring/early summer by the family. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Central Lake Township Library or Heartland Hospice.

Arrangements are in the care of the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
