BALVINA SALAZAR, 74, of Ellsworth, formerly of Central Lake, and Detroit, died on June 14, 2011 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan. Balvina was born on May 29, 1937, in Rio Grande, Texas, the daughter of Miguel and Concepcion (Gonzales) Cortez. Balvina was a lifelong resident of Detroit until moving to Central Lake in 2009 and most recently residing in Ellsworth. While living in Detroit, she was a long time member of Most Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She is survived by 4 children, George (Callie) Salazar of Wyandotte, MI., Francisca (Arthur) Brant of Wayne, MI., Irene Paszkowski of Ellsworth, Jose (Tammi) Salazar of Asheville, N.C., 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many siblings as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gregorio Salazar and her parents. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care Eden Center.
