Arthur J. Elkins, 91, of Mancelona, passed away on June 27, 2016 at Munson Medical Center. Arthur was born on January 15, 1925, in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Ernest and Pearl (Ballard) Elkins. Arthur was a longtime resident of Mancelona where he was employed by Moeke Lumber. He enjoyed woodworking and listening to Classical Music. Arthur served in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge, in World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star. On August 2, 1969, in Kalkaska, he married Marjory Becker who survives. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law Phyllis Birchfield of Kalkaska as well as his beloved puppy Missy. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Robert and Cecil Elkins, two sisters, Beverly Humphrey and Barbara Thorson. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 9 from 2 to 7 p.m.at the Kalkaska V.F.W. Post 8684, 408 Hyde St., Kalkaska. Cremation arrangements are being handled through the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
