Arnold 'Sam' Cowan, 85, of Bellaire, passed away on Tuesday August 20,2024 at Meadowbrook, with his daughter Ann and friends by his side.
He was born in Maqouketa, lowa on January 23,1939 the son of James and Genevieve (Anglin) Cowan.
He worked over 30 years at Wm. C. Brown Publishing in Dubuque, IA. You could always count on him to be cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Green Bay Packers. He also loved watching golf. He loved to spoil his animals any chance he got. They kept him active too with two daily walks down to Fisherman's Paradise stopping along the way talking with anyone he met along the way. Because of him he has a dog that is 16 and in great shape. He loved his scratch off tickets even though he never won much, and playing "powerball" and "Mega Millions". On every St Patty's day you would always see him walking around town decked out in all green. He was a proud member of St. Luke's Catholic church, Bellaire Lions Club, and Knights of Columbus. Every Saturday after church you could usually find him out having dinner with all of his "girlfriends".
On April 4, 1970 he married the love of his life Barbara Bacon Baumgartner who proceeds him in death. He is also proceeded in death by his parents, James and Genevieve, his sister Mary Kutsch, and two brother in-laws Joe Kutsch and Walter 'Jim" Kunnert.
Surviving are his two daughters Ann Baumgartner of Bellaire Mi, and Hope Fredrich of Dodgeville Wi. Three grandchildren, Jake Fredrich of Portland OR, Josh Fredrich of Madison WI, and Laken Baumgartner of Bellaire MI, his brother Leo (Carol) Cowan of Dubuque IA, and his sister-in-law Bea Kunnert of Dubuque IA. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, and all his "Girlfriends" around Bellaire.
A Mass will take place on August 27th at 11:00 am. Family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 a.m. until the beginning of mass.
Knights of Columbus will be doing a Rosary at 10:30.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Meadowbrook for taking great care of him. His last wish was to return to Jordan house and rest peacefully.
