Anne “Nancy” Cull, 87, of Beaver Island, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, in Dyer, Indiana. She was born November 27, 1928, in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She attended school leaving Ireland at age 19, and moving to London, England where she worked at St. George's Hospital. When an opportunity came up to come to America, she moved on January 5, 1953, to Grand Rapids. She worked for Mr. and Mrs. Bissell (of Bissell carpet sweepers), then at Blodgett Hospital. From there she was accepted into Saint Mary's nurse's training program and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1955.
Nancy's plans to return to Ireland changed when she met “The Nicest Man” and so begins the story of Larry and Nancy. They were wed July 21, 1956 on Beaver Island.
A day her whole family remembers – January 19, 1971 – when Nancy became an American Citizen, or as Larry put it, “She became a Yankee”.
Nancy and Larry made their home in Hazel Crest, Ill., and following retirement made their summer home on Beaver Island, and their winter home in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Larry preceded Nancy in death on March 9, 1999.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Cull of Beaver Island; Brian and Alyse Cull of New Lenox, Ill., Ellen and Mark Newman of Crete, Ill., Bruce and Patricia Cull of Beaver Island; grandchildren, Michael, Ceile, Brittany, Patrick, and Matthew Cull.
