Anna Simpson

Anna M. Simpson, 94, of Bellaire formerly of Mancelona passed away January 9, 2014 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Anna was born July 6, 1919 in Custer Township, Michigan, the daughter of Norman and Viola (Wilcox) Troyer. She married Dorval Simpson on June 9, 1942. He preceded her in death July 18, 1999. Also preceding her was son, David Simpson; grandson, Eric Simpson; brothers, Clyde, Wayne and Ward Troyer. Anna was known for her love of the outdoors, be it fishing, mushrooming, picking berries, and most of all, the huge garden that was planted each year. She never let anything go to waste. She enjoyed canning and freezing fruits and vegetables for the winter months. Anna worked many years for Biehl's, processing Turkeys for Thanksgiving. She worked at Lake Bellaire for over 35 years, making many friends along the way. She loved all of her grandchildren enjoying all their school and sporting events, she was known as the "Sandwich Grandma," as she would pack sandwiches for the ball teams to eat between their games. At Halloween she made Carmel Apples for all who visited. Anna also had a love for her Cats, taking in many strays that came to her house. Winter time she kept the wild Turkeys fed. She is survived by four children, Bill (Judy) Simpson of Rapid City; Don (Wanda) Simpson, Ruth (Glen) Orman and Linda (Ed) Long all of Mancelona; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, and a great grandchild on the way; sister, Ethel Batterbee of Lowell, daughter-in-law, Karen Clark of Apache Junction AZ; many nieces, nephews and a special childhood friend Irene McCleese of Ray, MI. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
