Angel Louise Bearss, 84, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born December 29, 1939, in Mount Pleasant, MI, the daughter of Allen and Fern (Black) Pease.
When Angel was young, her parents moved their family to the Charlevoix area to raise their children. She attended Charlevoix High School, and was wed to James Bearss when the two were still teens. The young couple remained in Charlevoix, and raised four children of their own. Angel was employed by Charlevoix Public Schools as a bus driver for 31 years while at the same time starting a business with her husband Jim, called Charlevoix Machine Products which they ran until they retired in 2012.
One of Angel’s biggest joys in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many precious moments with them, and rarely missed an opportunity to attend their events. Angel and Jim were long-time members at Center Point Assembly of God church in Charlevoix. She was instrumental in the operations of Tabitha’s Closet for the church, which was a program that offered free clothing to those in need. She and Jim spent 12 years involved in Servants On Wheels Ever Ready (SOWERS), which is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian couples RV work ministry that provides volunteer help to selected non-profit Christian ministries. She also enjoyed camping with old and new found friends and reading.
Angel is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, James Bearss. She is also survived by her four children, Steve (Linda) Bearss of Bay City, Randy (Faye Jean) Bearss of Boyne City, Teresa (Gary) Kersting of Boyne City, and Karolyn Peebles of Moose Lake, MN; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leon Pease, Evart Pease, and Bruce Pease; and her sister, Bonita McWatters.
Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Center Point Assembly in Charlevoix with Pastor Mike Way officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bridge Street Mission, 115 W. Bridge St, Wausau, WI 54401. Jim and Angel supported this ministry run by her niece and husband, which provides quality meals and safe shelter for those in need.
