Allyn H. Wright (87) of Bellaire, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day December 25th, 2012, sitting in his favorite chair, ankles crossed with the smell of Christmas dinner in the air. He was born on October 28th, 1925 in Ann Arbor, the son of Lynn and Ida Wright. Allyn was the youngest of three boys that all served in WWII with all returning home alive and without injury! Allyn's service in WWII was in a unique special Radar Counter measure unit, in the Eighth Air Force, 36th Bomb Squadron, based in Alcon bury England. He flew modified B24 missions over the France & Germany that were responsible for jamming German radar and radio communications. After Honorary Discharge he attended and graduated from Kalamazoo College. While at college, he met his wife of 62 years, Mac (Illene) McCarl. They were married in 1950 in their senior year at K-college. After college Allyn entered the family automobile dealership, Wright Motors, where the family resided in Jackson, Michigan. Allyn left the automobile business in the late 50's to pursue a lifelong career in furniture sales as a manufactures Rep. In 1965 the Wrights moved to East Grand Rapids, MI where they raised the family. Allyn was an avid rebel sailboat racer, golfer and enjoyed skiing. Allyn, his wife, and daughter Shelley, were longtime members of the National Ski Patrol. After years of ski weeks and weekends in northern Michigan the Wright's purchased land in Antrim County on the Cedar River in 1972. Allyn and Mac retired and moved Schuss Mountain in 1995. Allyn served in his retirement as a Golf Ranger @ Shanty Creek, a volunteer at the Antrim County Building, and was a member of the EDC of Mancelona. He was also a member of Church in the Hills. Allyn loved and adored his two grandchildren, Alex and Becca Wright. He also had a great love of Labrador Retrievers. The family was never without their love for over Sixty years. Allyn was a cancer survivor for over 27 years He is survived by his wife Illene "MAC" Wright(McCarl), by his children: Shelley Wright, (Portland, OR), Scott Wright (Cathan), ( Bellaire,MI), Grandchildern- Alex and Becca Wright, ( Bellaire,MI) Sister-in-law, Yvonne Wright, ( Vero Beach, FL) Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents Lynn & Ida Wright ( Jackson,MI). Bothers: Keith (Mary) Wright (Jackson, MI), Kenneth Wright ( Vero Beach,FL) Allyn above all loved Northern Michigan and his family. His subtle smile, dry sense of humor, and soft words of encouragement will be greatly missed. The family is planning a future memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Church in the Hills of Bellaire, MI , Antrim County Animal Shelter and Hospice of Traverse City.
