Alice Marie Reisig, 92, of Grosse Pointe, died peacefully Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her cottage on Oden Island in Petoskey, with her family by her side.
Alice was born March 8, 1931, in Detroit, to Dr. Donald and Mrs. Marie McLean. After graduating from St. Mary's Catholic School in Windsor, Ontario, and inspired by her father's love of medicine, Alice attended the Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing where she met the love of her life, Dr. Robert O. Reisig. They married July 3, 1952, and soon after started their family.
A woman of many talents and interests, Alice was a master seamstress, avid tennis player, accomplished downhill skier, phenomenal cook and lover of all dogs. She enjoyed throwing dinner parties for her friends and family - the highlights of the year being her Wednesday night tennis parties and her family's Christmas Eve celebration. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren on Oden Island and at her apartment in Palm Beach Shores, Fla.
Along with opening her home, Alice gave back to her community. She volunteered at St. James Lutheran Church and with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, as well as served as vice president of the Fontbonne Auxiliary of Ascension St. John Hospital.
Alice is survived by her son, Robert O. Reisig Jr. (Tracy Selby); daughters, Janet Cieslak (Russell), Barbara Reisig (Paul Walper) and Carolyn Cobane (Michael); grandchildren, Katherine Woo (Davis), Michael Reisig (Michaela Boulier), Claudia Cieslak-Sill (Jordan Sill), Robert Cieslak (Sally), Alison Cieslak (Bryan Shin), Erin Cobane-Mezey (Michael Mezey), George Cobane (Tori) and Richard Sadlowski; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Woo, Ellie Sill, Mariam Cieslak and Baby Boy Cieslak. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob; infant son, Kurt; brother, David; and sister, Cameron.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at St. James Lutheran Church, 170 McMillan, Grosse Pointe Farms.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Traverse Conservancy, landtrust.org/donate; Leader Dogs Michigan, leaderdog.org/donate; or Hospice of Northern Michigan, 1 Hiland Drive, Petoskey MI 49770.
