Alice McArthur

Alice Virginia McArthur, 85, of Hartsville, Tennessee, formerly of Pontiac, Clarkston, Mancelona and Traverse City, Michigan, died on Monday, April 04 2011, at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, TN.

She was born on February 14, 1926, in Dorothy, West Virginia, the daughter of Oscar and Anne Thomasson (nAC.e Peters). On December 21, 1962, in Pontiac, MI, Alice married Sheridan McArthur, who preceded her in death in 2004.

Alice was also preceded in death by her sister, Ann Lee Artz, and brothers William ("Billy") Thomasson and Shirley ("Bubby") Thomasson.

She is survived by her children Dana (and wife Kassie) Hassler of Hartsville, TN; Darleen Ryles of Gainsville, FL; Bonnie (and husband Roger) Homan of Mancelona, MI; and Russell McArthur of Mancelona, MI; sister Nella Mae Carney of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was a genuine life-long Christian, totally dedicated to her Lord & Savior, and at the time of her passing was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Hartsville, TN.

Alice was also devoted to her family, and took great joy in family gatherings. She always took pleasure in cooking and in stylish clothing; dearly loved "Barney", the cocker spaniel, during his life with Alice & Sheridan; and thoroughly enjoyed the music of traditional Christian church services and also "southern" style gospel quartets --- "It Is Well With My Soul" being her favorite hymn.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 16, from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M., at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A graveside service will follow immediately, at Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Arrangements have been handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
