Alfred J. Biel, (A.J.) 89, of Bellaire, passed away peacefully at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility on February 13, 2016. He died of a "broken Heart" on the one year anniversary of his wife's death, Lucy following 64 years of marriage. Alfred was born on June 26, 1926, in Hamtramck, MI, the son of Frank and Mary (Krupa) Bielski. Alfred was employed for 30 years for the city of Oak Park in the Public Safety Police, Fire Department and retired as the Deputy Director. Following retirement from Oak Park he resided in Deckerville for 25 years and then moved to Bellaire in 2011. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire and enjoyed hunting, reading as well as following his favorite sports teams, the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers. He honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by 4 children, Beverly (Don) Pierce of Findlay, OH, Sandra (Jack) Harmon of Bellaire, MI, John Biel of Royal Oak, MI, Brenda (Rob) Russillo of Smyrna, DE, 7 grandchildren, Jason (Stacy) Pierce, Mary (Doug) Reed, Katherine Pierce, Dominic Rusillo, Gabrielle Russillo, Joe Russillo, Luke Russillo, 7 great-grandchildren, Lucy, Harrison, Joe, Anderson (A.J.), Noah, Karrington and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy (Lipin) Biel on February 13, 2015, two sisters, Anna Boik and Lottie Cane, a brother Walter Bielski as well as his parents. A Funeral Mass, followed by military honors, will take place on Friday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire with Fr. Chet Collins officiating. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until Mass time at St. Luke Church. Burial will take place alongside his wife Lucy in Eldred Cemetery, Kearney Township when weather permits in the spring.
