ALEXANDER J. KACZAN, 87, of Kewadin, formerly of Onaway, passed away on October 12, 2012. Alexander was born on July 12, 1925 in Detroit, the son of Michael and Stella (Trezciak) Kaczan. Alexander served in the United States Army during World War II and was a Technician Fourth Grade Company B 328th Infantry. He went on to work for the Chrysler Corporation where he was a switchman. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, creating wood crafts and wood furniture for his children and attended Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. On February 26, 1949, in Taylor, Michigan, he married Mary Sigler who survives. Also surviving are sons Michael and David Kaczan, daughters, Carol Napier, Susan Young, Kathleen Kaczan and Elizabeth Kaczan, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, a brother Franklin Kaczan, and a sister Betty Motyka He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Diane Lewis and a daughter Marion Kaczan. A Vigil for the Deceased will be on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11:00 on Thur., Oct. 18 with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding. Burial with full military honors will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan on Fri., Oct. 19 from 10:00-10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 143 Charles St., Elk Rapids, MI., 49629.
