Alberta Mae "Birdie" Nikita, 82, of East Jordan formerly of Rapid City, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the Charlevoix Area Hospital. Birdie was born December 23, 1923 in Echo Township the Alfred and Teresa (Hosler) Walden. On July 10, 1944 in Marysville, CA she married Vasalia (Charlie) Nikita who preceded her in death in 2004. Together they owned and operated the Torch Riviera Bar and Restaurant on South Torch Lake in the late 1960's. They also owned and operated Fisherman's Wharf RV park in Brimley. Alberta is survived by her brothers Earnest J. (Janette) Walden of East Jordan and Vern L. (Carleen Sue) of Bellaire and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Florence Dougherty and a brother Albert Walden. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27th, 2006 Eleven a.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Mary Brown officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, South Arm Township.
