Marilyn Fisher

Marilyn G. Fisher, 89, of Bellaire passed away January 13, 2014 following a short illness, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Marilyn was born on August 25, 1924 in Fairfield, Iowa, graduated from Iowa State University and moved to the Washington DC, area in 1947. There she met her future husband, Evan D. Fisher, and settled down to a diversified and interesting life in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Always 'Yes' people, Marilyn and Evan were open to many ideas, experiences and cultures and were never ones to say 'No' to opportunities that exposed themselves and their children to experiences they considered valuable. After Evan retired in 1976 they moved from Maryland to Evan's great-grandparents' family farm on Lake Bellaire, Michigan, where they'd spent the past 35 years summering. After Evan passed away in 1988, Marilyn put 90 acres of lakefront property, including over 4000 feet of lake frontage, into the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy to preserve it in perpetuity. Marilyn had a keen interest in many things and was appreciative to the end for the life she had led. She was always ready for a new adventure, whether it was taking the last boat in during a snow storm, making maple syrup on the farm, travelling nearly anywhere on the spur of the moment, or creaming everyone at a good game of cards. Her dry sense of humor was one of her hallmarks and made her a favorite of many people. Marilyn was active in The Bellaire United Methodist Church, the Literary Club, various bridge groups, and until her husband's death as a cellist with the Northwestern Symphony Orchestra in Traverse City. Marilyn is survived by her three children, Lynn Fisher of Bellaire, Earl Frederick Fisher, also of Bellaire, and James Fisher (Kari Galster) of Lansing; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one sister, Shirley Anderson, in Minnesota. Services will be at the Bellaire United Methodist Church on Friday, January, 17, at 10 a.m. with luncheon to follow. Donations can be made to Grass River Natural Area or the charity of one's choice.
