Leon "Lee" Somers Jr., 79, of Bellaire (formerly of Flushing), passed away on February 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Lee was born on April 9, 1937, in Dearborn, MI, the son of Leon Sr. and Elvira Somers. He was proud to receive a personal invitation via telegram from Henry Ford to attend Greenfield Village Elementary School. From 1956-1959, he served in the U.S. Navy. Following the Navy, he began his employment with General Motors, where he stayed for 32 years. He worked in various locations around Michigan. Upon retirement, he moved to Bellaire in 1990. While living in Bellaire he was a member of St. Luke Catholic church where he sang in the choir. He sang in the Cherry Capital Chorus in Traverse City and the Antrim County Chorus. He also sang in each of his children's weddings. He was a member of the Bellaire Lions Club and enjoyed singing, hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing the saxophone and was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. On May 7, 1982, in Flushing, MI, he married Janice ( Dziwura) Somers who survives. Also surviving are two children, Lisa (Bernard) Clagg of Flushing, Michael Labadie of Flushing, 5 grandchildren, Ciara, Brandon, Cody, Alexis and Trevor, 4 great-grandchildren, Landon, Ava, Sofia and Bristol as well as a special cousin Gary Street and his favorite daily coffee drinking crew in Bellaire. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cindy Cross and parents. Funeral mass Thursday, February, 23rd at 11am at St.Luke Catholic Church, Bellaire, Michigan. Fr. Chet Collins will officiate. Visitation Wednesday, February, 22nd from Noon to 8p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Chapel service Friday, February, 24th at 2 p.m. at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4142 Flushing Rd.,Flint, MI, 48504.
