Gordon Holland

Gordon "Bud" Keith Holland, age 84, was taken home on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by loving family and friends at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Bud was born in Charlevoix on June 23, 1932, to Nelson and Margaret (McElroy) Holland and resided in Bellaire for the past 63 years, where he was an active member of the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church. Bud graduated from Central Lake High School in 1950, and worked for Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park before enlisting in the United States Army in 1952. He was stationed in South Korea during the Korean War. On September 11, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart Donna (Cary) Holland, and together they owned and operated Holland's Service Station in Bellaire. Bud later retired from the Antrim County Road Commission.

Bud was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. In retirement, Bud enjoyed traveling the country with Donna in their motor home, woodworking and restoring tractors and vehicles, including his Ford Model-A and Volkswagen Bug. He was gifted with the creative ability to "fix" anything.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Gail Holland of Traverse City; son, Mark (Judy) Holland of Gaylord; granddaughters Heather Holland of Clinton Township and Wendy (Robb) Brent of Macomb. Also surviving are his brother, Donald (Jane) Holland; brother-in-law Jay (Joan) Montgomery; and several generations of adoring nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by Donna, his wife of 56 years, as well as his sister Nancy Lou Elliott, brother-in-law James Elliott, sister-in-law Ruth Montgomery, and nephew Phillip Page.

A celebration of Bud's life will take place at 11:00 am on April 22, 2017, at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church, with Pastors Eric Falker and Tim Manzer officiating. Those considering memorial contributions may direct them to the Bellaire Community Food Pantry or Good Samaritan Family Services. The family is being served by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
