Elaine Mary Hayton, 86 of Central Lake, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Clinton, TN. She was born May 14, 1922, in Detroit, the daughter of Percy and Ellen (Coy) Lister. Elaine moved to Central Lake in 1987 from Farmington Hills. Elaine was a member of the First Congregational Church of Central Lake and of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids. She was also a member of the Central Lake Historical Society. In 2006 Elaine moved to Clinton, TN to be near her daughter Kathy. Elaine loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed growing roses in her garden and taking walks on the beach. She liked the outdoors, camping and swimming with her friends. On July 4, 1943 in Detroit, Elaine married Arnold Hayton who preceded her in death in 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Delia Whipple and Elizabeth Lister. Elaine is survived by her children Mary Ann (Don) Waara of Bellaire, Carol (Mike) Gibbard of Central Lake, Kathy Hayton Cramer of Clinton, TN, grandchildren Kristin (Chris) Landis, Kathryn (Matthew) Simons, Matthew (Johanna McMilliam) Waara, Sherri Rogers, Jennifer Nemeth, Max (Gail) Gibbard, Michele Pfeiffer, Alexander Cramer, William Cramer, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 29, at Eleven a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Central Lake. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will take place in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church Youth Group, in Central Lake, MI or St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge, TN. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 2, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge, TN, with receiving of friends following the service Parish Hall.
