Earl Mason

Earl R. Mason, 82, of Bellaire passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011. He was born September 4, 1928 in Custer Twp, the son of Delbert and Laura (Wilcox) Mason. Earl was a lifelong resident of Bellaire and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1947. He was an active Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years in the churches of which he was a member. His day of salvation was in June 1947. He worked for many years as an auto mechanic and retired from Lamina Bronze. He enjoyed woodworking, archery, word puzzles and a good game of scrabble. He also enjoyed riding snowmobiles and restoring old Cadillac's back in the day. Earl was a very loved man. On September 6, 1947, in Ellsworth, he married Doris May Bunker, who survives. He is also survived by his children Lois (Daryl) Kaley of Ellsworth, Paul (Sheryl) Mason of Howard City, Gloria (Alden) Palmer of Kingsley, Steve (Sandy) Mason of Lake City, Phil (Michelle) Mason of Kentwood, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sisters Zora Smith of Bellaire, Beatrice Ransom of Remus, Maxine Babbitt of Gowen, sister in-law Betty Mason, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Thelma (Gordon) Dewey, Glen (Gladys) Mason, Lee (Marguerite) Mason, Carl (Hazel) Mason, Gladys (John) Matthews, Hilda (Bill) Bradshaw, Dorothy (George) Bailey, Ruth (Ira) Cornett, Virgil (Carol, Millie) Mason, Doris (Tom) Morlan, Dorr Mason, his in-laws Mr & Mrs. Deo Bunker, brother in-law Paul Cornett, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 11, at Eleven a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
